EPA Unveils New Chemical Labeling System
March 6, 2015
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a new voluntary labeling system for household chemical products.
The label system, known as “Safer Choice,” was designed by the EPA in conjunction with chemical manufacturers and environmental and health advocates. Similar to the EPA’s previous Design for the Environment—or DfE—program, chemicals are evaluated based on health implications as well as environmental impact. In addition to health and environmental concerns, the Safer Choice label system also sets standards for performance and packaging.
A complete list of Safer Choice-approved products, along with a product search engine, is available on the EPA’s website.
